Cyberpunk Art

The LumenPunks™ were born in the 1980s – an era when the digital age was dawning, and the cyberpunk movement was born. The influence of this gritty, high-tech, and subversive era on art is nothing short of revolutionary. KJF’s paintings pay homage to this electrifying convergence of punk and technology.

With its emphasis on dystopian futures, advanced technology, and the blurring of human-machine boundaries, the cyberpunk era couldn't be more relevant to our current Zeitgeist. In many ways, it foresaw the very issues and themes that we are grappling with today as we dive deeper into the digital age. The blockchain technology along with the application of virtual realities and metaverses, as well as artificial intelligence and robotics are changing our daily lives at an unprecedented scale and speed. At the same time, the issues and concerns of surveillance, privacy and cybersecurity as well as the aspects of transhumanism and biotechnology are more relevant than ever in today's time.

The fusion of organic and mechanical elements reflect the rebellious spirit and the chaotic beauty of an era that questioned authority, embraced hacking, and blurred the lines between man and machine.

KJF’s unique interpretation of the cyberpunk aesthetic, with its vibrant colors and vivid impressions of light and shadow, is what makes the LumenPunks™ stand out: While the cyberpunk art often veers into the dark and pessimistic, the LumenPunks™ bring a more positive and optimistic perspective by harnessing the power of "lumen," meaning "light" in Latin.

The exploration of the "Wirkweise des Lichts", the “mechanism of the light” had been KJF’s main artistic theme throughout his entire career. It is why he called his art “LumenArt” – and what lead to the name LumenPunks™.
